The Sisterhood Chennai Camp 2024, held from December 26 to 29, 2024 at the Heartfulness Meditation Centre, Porur, brought together 35 students from Chennai and Virudhachalam. The camp emphasized gender sensitization, leadership, and self-care through engaging activities, discussions, and expert sessions. Key highlights included workshops on gender equality, health and mental well-being classes, and thought-provoking movie screenings. Facilitators fostered teamwork and dialogue among participants, strengthening bonds and challenging societal stereotypes. The camp concluded with a valedictory session, leaving a lasting impact on the students.
Day 1: Orientation and Team Formation
The camp began with an orientation program to introduce students to the camp’s goals and agenda. Team-building games encouraged interaction among the 35 participants, which included 12 students from Virudhachalam and 23 from Chennai. Teams were formed setting the stage for collaborative learning and fostering camaraderie.
Day 2: Gender Sensitization and Societal Awareness
The second day started with a meditation session, promoting mindfulness and focus. A gender sensitization workshop led by Mr. Sandhiyan from AWARE India volunteer helped students explore concepts like sex, gender, and sexuality through engaging activities. The afternoon session, led by Mr. Prasanna from Aram Porul, provided a fresh perspective on gender equality, encouraging students to question societal stereotypes. The day concluded with a movie screening of Paava Kadhaigal, sparking deep discussions on transgender experiences and honor killings in society.
Day 4: Wrapping Up and Building Connections
The camp concluded on December 29, 2024, with participants reflecting on their transformative experiences and the strong bonds formed during the event. The program successfully empowered students with leadership skills, gender perspectives, and self-awareness, aligning with the Sisterhood Foundation’s mission to inspire and educate young women for a better society.
Day 3: Health, Self-Care, and Reflections
On the third day, Ms. Deepa Jagan conducted a session on health and mental well-being, offering valuable insights and practical activities for self-care. Students then interacted with Ms. Tina via Zoom, who shared inspiring insights about the Sisterhood Foundation’s mission. The day ended with a valedictory session, where students shared feedback on the camp’s impact, highlighting their growth in understanding gender equality and self-care.
